Will ‘Alice In Wonderland’ Be The Biggest Tim Burton-Johnny Depp Movie Ever?
Posted by Cam • No Comments »

Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland” is the first 3-D release since James Cameron’s “Avatar” opened to box-office numbers that made had every studio exec in Hollywood crying, “We need our own 3-D mega-blockbuster!” Luckily, Disney had long planned “Alice” as a 3-D release, and Burton didn’t have to submit his film to the last-minute addition of a third dimension, as “Clash of the Titans” filmmakers had to earlier this year.

So with 3-D effects, and the higher ticket prices that come as a result, in place — plus Johnny Depp in a starring role as the Mad Hatter — “Alice” is well positioned for a huge opening weekend. But how will it compare to past collaborations from Burton and Depp? Will “Alice,” the duo’s seventh big-screen outing, become their most profitable ever?

Once again the lovely Mia Wasikowska has been featured on the cover of a magazine.
normal_001

Between acting jobs she returns to the family home in Canberra: “I still have the same room I’ve had my whole life”

To land the role of Alice, she had to fly to London three times in as many weeks, she said: “I had no body clock and was starting to feel delirious”

Girl most likely, why she think she’s succeeded where so many others have failed: “It’s such a random thing, right time, right place, luck, yes and a lot of hard work as well, I don’t know, it’s a mysterious industry.”

Comparisons to her namesake Mia Farrow and cutting off her hair: “I was happy to cut it off, I’m sure people would have liked me to keep it in its Alice state, but I’ve had hair down to here for the past two years” she says, pointing to her waist. “It’s great not to have to do anything with it in the morning and I was also happy to donate it to Locks of Love who make wigs for kids (who’ve lost hair through illness).”

An old soul returns to Wonderland
Posted by Cam • No Comments »

Here’s an interview Mia Wasikowska did with the australian SMH. It also features a new portrait shoot outtake.

mia_narrowweb__300x461,0MIA WASIKOWSKA, the middle child of two Canberra photographers, is about to be unleashed upon the world with all the publicity muscle Disney can muster.

The pixieish 20-year-old stars as Alice in Tim Burton’s new 3D movie adaptation of Alice in Wonderland, with Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter.

“He was fantastic,” Wasikowska said of Depp yesterday. “He plays these crazy characters but he gives them this core humanity and heart, which is why … they have a gravity to them. You end up … caring about them. I think that’s why he’s [such a] genius.”

While other characters from Lewis Carroll’s book appear (including Tweedledum and Tweedledee, played by Matt Lucas from Little Britain) the film’s story is different. Alice is 19, returning to Wonderland to find her feet as an adult. Helena Bonham Carter’s evil red queen has taken over the place.
